BECE resit begins 2015 for private candidates
Students who fail the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will, from February 2015, be allowed to resit the examination as private candidates.

This follows an agreement reached between the government and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to allow students who fail in BECE to resit as private candidates.

Schools should adopt Chinese-style tactics such as evening classes and a purge on time-wasting between lessons to raise standards in key subjects, according to the Education Minister.

The Junior High School Starts from JHS 1 to JHS 3. It is a three year program after which students write the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in order to gain admission to a Senior High School.

The age range for JHS is between 12 and 15 years old.  There are three classes for each year group.

There are 11 subjects taught at the JHS level and these include Mathematics, English, Integrated Science, Pre Tech, Twi, French, Art, Social Studies, Religious and Moral Education, home science, and ICT.

There are also extra curricula activities that student can participate in such us the cadet, piano lessons, school band, and a variety of school clubs that students are encouraged to join.
